In commemoration of the 400th anniversary year of William Shakespeare’s death, the 2016 season of picfest features two wonderful weeks of music-making.
Beginning with our Youth Choral Festival (June 21-27), we present Shakespeare and All That Jazz, a program of music based on the texts of William Shakespeare or texts inspired by him. The Gala Concert (June 26 in Eugene’s Hult Center for the Performing Arts) features ten outstanding youth choirs, composer/guest conductor Bob Chilcott and guest artists the Yellowjackets. The evening concludes with the world premiere of the 2016 picfest commission Ophelia, Caliban and Miranda by Chilcott and poet Charles Bennett featuring all of the performers.
Two weeks later, our Young Women’s Choral Festival (July 4-10) presents The Poet Sings, continuing the focus on choral settings of great poetry. The Finalé Concert (July 9) highlights women composers and poets under the direction of composer/guest conductor Andrea Ramsey. The Festival Chorus is the combined artistry of six wonderful young women’s choirs (through age 18) who will share the stage with extraordinary singers and multi-instrumentalists moira smiley & VOCO.
Both 2016 festivals are at full capacity. Now is the perfect time to apply for the 20th Anniversary Season in 2017.
Tickets for the Gala and Finalé Concerts will be available through the Hult Center Box Office beginning April 5th, 2016.
